Every year at the beginning of December the annual Olive Oil Festival is held in San Quirico. The extra virgin oil produced here has been scientifically proven to have an excellent balance and it is of an extremely high quality.
Pienza is also famous today for its sheep's cheese Pecorino di Pienza.
In this area of Tuscany the "pecorino" has a milder taste than that of those produced near Rome or in Sardinia. The most common kinds you find are the fresh ( white), semi-mature (red) or mature (black). We also suggest you try the "pecorino a latte crudo" made using non pasteurized milk, whose taste is closer to that of the "pecorino" made in the past.
A stone's throw from Il Rigo is the home of the king of wines: Brunello di Montalcino.
Montepulciano, a small town between the Orcia and the Chiana valleys, is home to the famous Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
