Organic since 1990
Sustainability is a guiding principle in everything we do, because we want this place to continue thriving over time. We believe in slow, mindful growth—one that respects nature, the people who work with us, and the local communities around us. It is a daily commitment and our small life mission, taking shape every day through the hospitality we offer.
Organic Farming
We do not use pesticides or herbicides on the approximately 300 hectares of our farm. This choice helps preserve biodiversity and supports the survival of many inhabitants of this ecosystem, including bees and other pollinating insects, fireflies, birds, frogs, and small mammals.
If you happen to find an insect in your room, consider it living proof that we do not spread poisons in the soil or in the air.
We thank you for your understanding: living in the countryside also means sharing its vitality.
BIODEGRADABLE AND PLASTIC FREE COURTESY KIT
In the bathrooms you will find our soaps, made with olive oil, natural colorants, and essential oils by Lunaroma, a small family-run company that offered us a meaningful alternative to single-use plastic soap packets.
We have also chosen a solid shampoo, the same one we have been using in our own home for years.
We hope these choices might inspire you, even once you return home, to reduce the amount of plastic used every day.
Solar Energy
In the winter of 2022 we installed a photovoltaic system that can potentially cover the electricity needs of both our agriturismo and our farm, significantly reducing the environmental impact of our daily activities.
Waste Separation and Recycling
All our waste is carefully separated.
Kitchen organic waste is used as feed for our chickens and as compost for the vegetable garden.
Plastic, aluminum, and glass are recycled, while untreated paper is burned in our wood-fired oven when we light it to bake bread.
We kindly ask our guests to separate their waste and to recycle plastic bottles, which can be refilled free of charge at reception.
Wastewater Treatment and Reuse
All household wastewater is treated through a constructed wetland (phytoremediation) system and then reused to irrigate our vegetable garden.

When choosing the products we serve at Il Rigo, those that furnish our rooms, or those offered in our small shop, we prioritize small local producers who share our values of quality, craftsmanship, and respect for the territory.
